Where can I use Apple Pay?

  • Apple Pay is accepted in many grocery stores, restaurants, hotels, and many other locations. For a full list of locations, click here. You can also use Apple Pay to make secure purchases online and in mobile apps.

How do I know if a store accepts Apple Pay?

Apple Pay is accepted in stores that accept contactless payments. Look for these symbols at checkout:

Some stores might have this symbol on their card readers and POS terminals, but they might not be currently set up to accept contactless payments, including Apple Pay. At the current time, this includes 7-Eleven, Jack in the Box, Home Depot, Rite Aid, and CVS.

How do I make a purchase in a store?

     For compatible iPhone or iPad:

Hold your iPhone within an inch of the contactless reader with your finger held on the Touch ID without pressing it (click here for the demo). If the terminal asks if you would like to use Credit or Debit, Apple recommends that you choose Credit. When the payment is complete, there will be a subtle vibration and beep. You might also need to sign a receipt, depending on the store and the transaction amount.

     For Apple Watch:

  1.  Double-click the side button.
  2.  You’ll see your default card. To change cards, swipe left or right.
  3.  Hold the face of your Apple Watch within a few centimeters of the contactless reader.
  4.   Make sure that you hold your Apple Watch near the reader until you feel a gentle pulse and hear a tone. That’s how you      know that your payment information was sent.

How do I make a purchase in an app?

  1. Tap the Buy with Apple Pay button or Apple Pay button.
  2.  Review your payment information and contact details. Enter other billing, shipping, and contact information if necessary. Apple Pay will store that information, so you won't need to enter it again.
  3. Place your finger on Touch ID to complete the payment. When your payment information is sent successfully, you'll see Done and a checkmark on the screen.

How do I change my default card for Apple Pay

          For compatible iPhone or iPad:

  1.      Go to Settings, then Passbook & Apple Pay.
  2.       Tap on Default Card.
  3.       Choose a new card.

For Apple Watch:

  1.       Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and tap My Watch
  2.       Scroll down and tap Passbook & Apple Pay
  3.       Tap Add Credit or Debit Card, then follow the onscreen steps

How do I return an item that I bought in a store using Apple Pay?

  •  The cashier can use the Device Account Number to find the purchase and process the return, just like they would with a traditional credit or debit card payment. To see the last four or five digits of the Device Account Number for your iPhone or iPad, go to Passbook, tap the card, and tap . For your Apple Watch, open the Apple Watch app on iPhone, tap My Watch > Passbook & Apple Pay. Tap your card to select it and see the Device Account Number. Apple Pay activity is also included on your credit and debit card statements.

  • If the cashier needs your card details to process the return, you can follow the same steps for making a payment:
    1. On the device that you used to make the original payment, select the card that you want to be refunded.
    2. On your iPhone, hold the device near the reader and authorize the return with Touch ID or passcode. On your Apple Watch, double-click the side button and hold the face of your Apple Watch a few centimeters from the contactless reader. Depending on the return and refund policies of the store, it may take up to several days for the return transaction to appear on your credit or debit card statement.

What will an Apple Pay transaction look like on my HHCU statement?

  •   Apple Pay transactions will appear the same as other credit card transactions.

How will my HHCU transactions appear in Apple’s Passbook?

  •   The city and state where the last transaction occurred will show along with the time.

Why is my transaction amount sometimes reported differently in Apple Passbook?

  • Sometimes only the initial authorization amount appears in Passbook, which might be different than the final transaction amount.

Will my HHCU Visa credit card look the same in Apple Pay?

  • The card image will display your HHCU credit card. However, it will not be identical to your card image.

Can I continue to use my plastic credit card if I suspend or remove my card in Passbook?

  • Yes, suspending or removing your card from Passbook does not affect use of the plastic card.

If I receive a replacement card, do I need to update my HHCU Visa credit card information with Apple Pay?

  • Yes, you will need to repeat the Apple Pay set up process if you receive a replacement card.

         How secure is Apple Pay?

  • Your financial information isn’t stored with Apple. When you add your card to Passbook, a unique device account number is assigned, encrypted and stored on a dedicated chip on your iPhone. When you make a purchase, the device account number, along with a transaction-specific dynamic security code, is used to process your transaction. So, your actual credit or debit card numbers are never shared with merchants or transmitted with payment and your financial information isn’t stored with Apple.

How does Apple Pay keep my information private?

  • When you pay in stores, neither Apple nor your device sends your actual credit or debit card numbers to merchants. When you pay in apps, the merchant will only receive information like name, email address, billing and shipping addresses you authorize to share to fulfill your order. Apple Pay retains anonymous transaction information such as approximate purchase amount. This information can’t be tied back to you and never includes what you're buying. Apps that use Apple Pay must have a privacy policy that you can view which governs the use of your data. Learn more about Apple Pay security and privacy.

If my device is lost or stolen, what should I do?

  • With Apple Pay, you authorize each purchase with Touch ID or your passcode. And every time you put on your Apple Watch, you need to enter your passcode to access it. These features help prevent other people from using Apple Pay on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. If your device is ever lost or stolen, you can sign into https://www.iCloud.com, click Settings, choose your device, and remove your cards in the Apple Pay section. Finally, you can call the HHCU Call Center at 800-865-2612 to cancel your card.
